To further complement the services at Milford Marina, earlier this year we welcomed a brand new 20-tonne boat hoist from Wise Handing which was built on-site. The new travel lift replaces the 16-tonne hoist which provided many lifts to our berth holders over the years.
Playing a huge part in the future of Milford Marina, our new boat hoist has not only improved our boatyard operations, it has also increased our lifting capacity for weight and length. You may have noticed our Marina Operatives using a wireless remote control when operating the new hoist, this upgrade gives Marina Operatives better visibility and safer operations when controlling our new four-wheel steering hoist!
On the first day of lifts with our new hoist, the first lift of the day was yacht Musketeer II, we had history repeating itself as it was also the first boat to be lifted 20 years ago with our new 16-tonne hoist at the time. This was a special moment for the marina as Captain Ian Evans is one of our longest standing berth holders, with Musketeer II first making Milford Marina its home when it opened back in 1991.
On April 5th, my boat “Musketeer II”, was scheduled to launch that morning. At 10:30am, I had a feeling of déjà vu as I was approached by Kevin (Docks & Marina Supervisor), he then asked if I’d like to have “Musketeer” launched by the new hoist which had innovative new systems including being controlled remotely by himself. Déjà vu confirmed as Musketeer II had been the first boat launched by the existing hoist 20 years prior!

Over the years having experience of the competence of the marina staff, I had no hesitation in doing so, a decision that was justified as the launching went as smoothly as clockwork to the applause of the waiting boat owners.
